On September 8th, our community celebrated our three newest members, Bridget, Kristine, and Anna, taking their first steps in religious life and officially becoming postulants!
Postulancy begins with a simple private ceremony that takes place in the context of Morning Prayer. After a brief ferverino from Bishop Bob, there is a simple blessing over the San Damiano crosses that our new postulants will wear around their necks. Each postulant then receives the cross around their neck as a sign of their intention to begin this new life of following Jesus in the footsteps of St. Francis.
You can read more about the importance of the San Damiano Cross here and more about our community’s religious habit here.
Postulancy is a time of initial formation and continued discernment. Time is set aside for regular formation meetings, in-house classes with older members of the community, and plenty of time for slowly learning the many ins-and-outs of our daily life including the rhythms of our prayer life, how we live alongside each other in community, and what our apostolates (work) are like.
Postulancy lasts between 6 months and 1 years. Click here to learn more about all of the different stages of formation in our community. Please keep our new postulants in your prayers and join us in praying for more vocations!
