When a religious community is founded in the Catholic Church, the Church is part of the process. The Church is given the responsibility to authenticate each religious community. This means that the Church examines and discerns if the community is truly a work of God for the service of the Church and the world. When a community is approved by the Church, they are established by a decree in accordance with Church Law, which is called Canon Law. This is the official decree which canonically (by the procedures of Canon Law) established our community, the Franciscans of the Eucharist of Chicago.
