Peace! Each Tuesday we host a Senior Program, inviting senior citizens from our neighborhood to come together for exercise, a Bible Study, a healthy meal and other activities–including outings to parks and outdoor concerts during the summer months. January marked the 4 year anniversary of this weekly gathering which Fr. Bob started right after Kelly Hall, the old parish center, was renovated and re-opened (through a partnership among the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels, the YMCA of Metro Chicago and the Greater Chicago Food Depository).
This gathering has been an incredible blessing for our Franciscan community, the volunteers who help us and the seniors whom we serve!
Before these weekly gatherings, many of the seniors didn’t get out much and didn’t know one another–living in such a troubled neighborhood, there were few opportunities that were safe, wholesome and God-centered. Now the ladies and gentlemen that come tell us they are so grateful for the Tuesday gatherings, and really consider the time together a gift from God to help them enjoy their golden years and experience His love for them through one another and through the Bible study.
We wanted to share a few pictures from our recent Mardi Gras Party . . . “Whatever you did for one of these least brothers or sisters of mine, you did it for Me.” (Matt 25:40) God bless you!
